Medicines we don’t like to think about

Disasters come in many shades, sizes and durations. No matter what the reason, you almost certainly won’t be eating and drinking like normal. Be it a meal of rice and beans eaten at a strange hour, or an MRE bolted down in ten stolen minutes, your gut is not going to be happy with it. Stress also causes problems in this area. Our digestive systems get unhappy with any changes in routine, precisely when we can least afford problems.
Diarrhea and constipation are no joking matter. Your strength and endurance are slowly drained, and you can die from either if they go on too long. Luckily the medicines to correct either are available and cheap. I recommend stocking bismuth subsalicylate (pepto-bismol and such) for diarrhea because it also helps with nausea and upset stomachs. There are many different laxatives, milk of magnesia and mineral oil are just two that I stock. Like all medicines, rotate your stock and dispose of out of date bottles.
Be prepared to keep your gut happy!

Totally agree! Something else we have on hand (due to toxins / heavy metal issues Bill's had) is Bentonite clay. It can also help w/ diarrhea. And extra baby wipes and hydracortisone for the bum!
